Rashida Tlaib has become the the first Palestinian-American woman elected to the American Congress on Tuesday 6th November. The Detroit-born mother of two has made history in what has been a record year for female politicians in America.  Read more about the election results here.

The community of Khan Al-Ahmar have been fighting evacuation of their homes by the Israeli Government for nearly a decade. Now, following a decision from Israel's High Court of Justice, demolition of the village looms.  
The community is made up of around 180 members of the Jahalin Bedouin tribe, settled in the Mishor Adumim since the 1970's.  The community have a history of displacement and dispossession by the Israeli Government, going back as far as 1948, when they were forced out of their villages and into the West bank. One-sided planning laws are causing heartache in East Jerusalem. According to Daniel Seidemann of the NGO Terrestrial Jerusalem, "since 1967, the Government of Israel has directly engaged in the construction of 55,000 units for Israelis in East Jerusalem; in contrast, fewer than 600 units have been built for Palestinians in East Jerusalem, the last of which were built 40 years ago. So much for (Jerusalem Mayor Nir) Barkat's claim 'we build for everyone.'" Full Story here.

The Cabinet has condemned the misguided decision of the Prime Minister of Israel to pass a law to enable execution of Palestinian prisoners inside Israeli prisons. The ratification of this law is a worrying development which should draw objections from the International community.  It will infringe upon the human rights of prisoners and must be challenged.  Read more here.
